Southeastern Europe Deputy Chiefs of General Staff Meeting

Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović, attended the meeting of the Deputy Chiefs of General Staff of the regional countries held today in Istanbul within the Southeastern Europe Defense Ministerial Process.
At the meeting, joint activities and projects within this initiative were discussed and a joint statement was adopted expressing commitment to peace and stability in the region and recognizing the need to continue efforts aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and thus international security.
Addressing the meeting, General Glišović emphasized that the Republic of Serbia was fully committed to respecting the United Nations Charter, the Helsinki Final Act, all relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, international law, the territorial integrity of sovereign states, improving cooperation with key international organizations in the field of defense and security and an active contribution within regional forums.
The Southeastern Europe Defense Ministerial Process (SEDM) was launched in 1996, and the Republic of Serbia became a full member of this regional initiative in 2010. The main goal of SEDM is to improve understanding and intensify political and military cooperation in the region, in order to strengthen security in this part of Europe. The member states include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Italy, Moldova, Romania, the United States, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Croatia and Montenegro.
