CAX Viking 14
The Serbian Armed Forces planned the “VIKING 14” exercise as one of main tasks in 2014 and it was also one of the most important exercises this year.
By the number of the engaged personnel and the number of countries and other national and international organizations, “VIKING 14” exercise ranks among the largest exercises of this type and among the largest international exercises with participation of the Serbian Armed Forces.
Main site and exercise PKO command centre was in Sweden and remote sites were in Serbia, Ireland, Bulgaria, Georgia and Sweden. Brigade HQs at exercise remote sites consisted of staff officers from several countries, the police component consisted of representatives of national police forces, while the civilian component consisted of international and non-governmental organizations and Red Cross of the Republic of Serbia. Students of the final year of Belgrade Faculty of Drama played special roles during the exercise.

Exercise Goals
General Exercise Goals
- Improve capabilities of MN Brigade HQ, civilian organizations and police for staff procedures and command and control of forces in multinational operating environment,
- Improve cooperation and interoperability between partners nations;
- Improve regional military-to-military and civil-military relations;
- Promote mutual understanding, confidence and cooperation among regional countries, international organizations, non-governmental and governmental national organizations.
Special exercise goal for the Serbian Armed Forces
Through participation in planning and organization of the distributed exercise environment for multinational training, gain experience and skills in planning training for missions of building and maintaining regional and world peace.
Exercise objectives
- Train and improve the standard operational procedures through implementation of MDMP and staff procedures during the operation in accordance with peace support operation scenario;
- Enhance capabilities of joint multinational staffs, civilian organizations and police to perform tasks of peacekeeping, peace-building and peace maintenance in multi-functional operating environment, under the UN mandate;
- Develop operational plans, orders, intelligence information and reports during peacekeeping operations;
- Conduct command and control in operation in accordance with the determined scenario and multinational brigade battle organization, implement force protection and IT and logistic support;
- Exchange knowledge and experience between multinational staff officers through joint staff engagement in the multinational brigade HQs, and gain experience from cooperation with civilian and police components of the mission.
